ARTIST STATEMENT – MILICA TIČERIĆ
I am a photographer and visual artist from Belgrade, Serbia, currently based in Oxford, UK. My practice is centred around analogue photography, with a specific focus on experimental processes. I use my own body to create self-portraits captured on 35mm film, as the primary subject of my work. This method connects my work to a legacy of artists like Francesca Woodman, Cindy Sherman, Maya Deren, and Marina Abramović, who used their own bodies as a primary medium.
Through cinematic self-portraits, I portray hyper-feminine characters who experience feelings of sadness, loneliness, and invisibility. Through this intimate and experimental process, my work serves as a visual investigation into the effects of social isolation and economic uncertainty on women's lives.
